To Tell or Not to Tell?

$

My husband and I do not want to share that we are using a donor with anyone in either of our families.   I would love to hear how other women are handling this situation.

In fact, we aren't telling anyone about the IVF at all.  I do not want to be judged or to answer any questions, and I'm also concerned that my parents just wouldn't be able to understand any of it.

Am I being dishonest by not telling everyone?  If I don't tell everyone, how do I tell the child?  And when?

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

What to expect?

This may not be the right group, feel free to tell me if it's not. Tomorrow I have my phone interview to become an egg donor and I was wondering what I should expect I am so nervous for some reason! I am nervous that they will not want me and if they do I won't be chosen by a recipient. I've been wanting to do this for so long. I am also terrible at interviews, Ugh please let me know if any of you have any experience or advice on the interview process and what happens next?

Uncertain on using donor egg...

I'm hoping some one can give me some advice or share from personal experience. I just turned 42; I've been trying to get pregnant for just over 3 years. I've done 6 IVF, on my last one I got pregnant but miscarried on week 8. My doctor recommended I use DE, but I feel kind of a "loss" by not using my eggs and knowing that my baby will not be biologically mine. I know it sounds silly and a bit selfish, but I would love to have a baby that may look like me, or may have my personality, especially since I'll be also using a sperm donor. On the other hand I'm very afraid that if I insist in using my eggs my baby will not be health.

DE cycling poll

Hi There,

I just had my 1st DE cycle which ended in a chemical pregnancy. I used frozen donor eggs from a proven donor. I have 3 frozen embryos left.

I'm curious how other peoples cycles are going and how many it took to get a take home baby. Here are my questions/answers:

1. How many DE cycles have you done? 1

2. How did they turn out? (bfp, m/c, chem, bfn) chemical

3. was your DE w/ fresh or frozen eggs? or fresh IVF? FET? Frozen egg 1st ivf (though Im not sure if a frozen egg with fresh sperm is considered fresh IVF or FET)

4. Did you use a proven donor? yes

5. How many eggs vs. quality embryos did you get? 6 eggs, all fertilized. 3 5 day blasts, 1 6 day blast.

6. how many embryos did you transfer each cycle? single 5 day blast.

DE from my cousin?

I am new to this group.  I am 32, and have been ttc for almost 2.5 years for our second.  We got pregnant naturally with our first, but it took some time.  I have premature diminished ovarian reserve.  Many docs wouldn't even take me on as a patient.  We have done IVF a couple times and there are no eggs that mature.  I tried two different protocols and none worked, so the RE wants me to try DEs.

We are thinking about using DEs from my cousin.  Has anyone done something similar to this?  Any concerns I should have?  Thanks!

Vent - They forgot to defrost my embryo!

Sorry ladies, I'm going to vent.

This isn't too positive, but I'm going to vent anyway.

My frozen embryo transfer scheduled for today was cancelled last night.

My RE called to say that the lab had made a mistake and failed to defrost my Day Three embryo on Monday. (The plan was to defrost and grow the embie out to blast.)

I assumed hearing nothing meant success. Instead it meant my RE had forgotten about me and my embryo!

Since August of 2013, I've had a month and a half of waiting for a period after my failed FET in July, a cycle of Estrace priming which induced ovulation, a cancelled Mock Cycle due to another ovulation, a Mock including Lupron, an "extremely difficult" endometrial biopsy, a Real Cycle cancelled due to Lab error. Now it's going to be another Real Cycle after a bit more progesterone.

Prior to this were two failed FETs at my old practice.

My plan is to get right back on the horse and try (again) with this last little frostie from my first donor. Then possibly find a new practice to try again with a new donor. What I thought would be a simple path to a second child has become well... A year of "surprises".

Positive thoughts: I got off the phone with my RE and promptly had a large caffeinated VIA from Starbucks which was AWESOME (back on the wagon today), my 21 month old son from donor egg is wonderful and keeps me loving every minute of motherhood, my parents are surprise visiting this week and we didn't quite know how to deal with keeping the transfer and two days of bed-rest a secret. Now we don't have to worry and I can enjoy my parents.

Last, there was a post on the board about Laura Linney having a baby at 49 that I read for the first time last night. (Thanks Donielle.) I've been feeling really anxious about "trying" as an older mom and this recent setback had me questioning this path I've chosen. No more! I feel like I bought a year, having lost a year.

Looking forward to a February transfer, Ojala.

PS I'm in Los Angeles if anyone wants to PM me with reproductive practice recommendations. I've gotten some already from several board members (thank you).

I hope everyone is doing well.

weight gain - this is nuts!

It seems like all the newly-pregnant ladies on this board are doing great at keeping their 1st tri weight gain in a healthy range...I'm feeling so frustrated, because my body is out of control!  I'm 8 weeks today, and I've already gained 7 pounds!  With my dd pregnancy I did great, gained 24 pounds total and had the weight off just with breast-feeding by the time she was 8 weeks old.  I swear I'm not eating any different than I was pre-pregnancy...but the scale just keeps inching up.  I know I just need to find the energy to exercise (wasn't really doing that, before-hand, but I know it would be better for me and the baby...) but I'm so nauseous and tired at night, and I already get up at 5 am to get to work on time...sorry, guess I just needed to vent...is there anyone else struggling with this??

Anyone have to convince your partner about DE?

Hello,

I've been down a long road TTC healthy baby #2 (after another winding road to get to healthy baby #1). My signature has some of the details, but my question isn't about my history.

I would prefer we seriously consider DE but DH is opposed. I thought that he would be more open if IVF with my OE didn't work but that has not happened.

Anyone have this experience and if so, how did you navigate the relationship and what did you decide?

Fibroid Removal

Any ladies out there who have previously had surgery to remove one or some fibroids to prepare your uterus for transfer? Most of you ladies know me I think, but I just had a BFN on my first DE transfer. We knew I had two less then 3cm? I think in size going into my transfer. Prior to the transfer we have never noticed them until my failed OE transfer. I think the meds fed them. Anyways, after an MRI and a saline sonogram and HSG my RE felt surgery was not worth it at that point. Now that we have failed its back on the table and looks like it will happen. I need to clairfy if my fibroids are subserosal, submucosal (which I think they are). How was your healing process? How long did your RE make you wait before your next transfer? Did you do a lap to have it done? Mine is not distorting my shape of my uterus, but if a embryo was to attach there it would lose blood supply and thus micarry. I am trying to focus on things down the road and make a plan after I talk to him about details etc. Just looking for anyone who may have been through this before.

Thanks so much ladies!

So we have had the psych consult and are waiting for the go ahead to pay MEB the deposit and start looking at profiles.  We are looking at sometime in April/Early May for sure.

Anyone else?  What did you all look for in the personality profile?  Is younger better? (for ex. 23 vs 29?)  Does anyone know if MEB provides "proven" donor info?

My hubby wants to know the pros and cons of using a shared donor and using frozen eggs.

Why do people choose one over the other??
