Hello All~
I am new to this site. I am 42 (and a half :)) and have one completely blocked fallopian tube and one that is questionable at best. I met my sweet husband at 41 and of course thought that I would have zero problem getting pregnant right away. Everybody in Hollywood is doing it; right?
So after a year of trying, we've been to a fertility center. I am in the process of a mock cycle and preparing to undergo IVF with a donor. We have not tried IVF with my own eggs at all. I am posting because although I feel good about our decision to use donor eggs, I wonder what others in my position have done. I guess I want a little feedback and assurance that we're doing the right thing.
My husband and I only have one shot at this, so that's why we're going with the donor without even trying my eggs. We do not have unlimited financial resources and insurance covers nothing. There is no way financially that we could do another cycle if my eggs were to fail, and of course time is not on our side. With the donor, we qualify for a success guarantee so that if we do not bring home a baby, we are refunded or can continue transfers until we do conceive.
Has anyone else here gone straight to a donor after not being able to conceive naturally? If I were in my 30's, I would be trying with my own eggs first, but at my age, I just don't want to take a chance of no baby if the odds are stacked against me. I don't know all the of medical lingo yet, but when my doctor has examined me with ultrasound, I have had six follicles total. My AMH is also below optimal level. But then I read miracle stories (women doing IVF at 42 with their own eggs and conceiving on the first try) on the Internet and start wondering if we're doing the right thing.
