Hello everyone.
I've read many Babycenter posts on the forums over the last few years. But now that I'm starting on the DE journey, I feel like I have no idea what to do.
My husband and I have been ttc for over four years now. We've had 3 failed IVF attempts and I've had one mc. I'm now 43 and still trying for my first (and only) baby.
I've been reading over the posts and trying to get a picture of my options. There are so many clinics with wildly different pros and cons.
If anyone can offer any insight into a few things I'm wondering about, I would be so happy.
My husband and I could travel. My husband is Canadian and European. I am American. So we could travel to the right clinic (anywhere really) if needed.
But for me, it's really important to see the face of a potential donor. Do others feel this way too? And in Europe it seems the donor must be anonymous. Is this correct? If not, which countries allow recipients to choose donors after seeing photos?
In Canada the donor can't be compensated for her procedure so finding one is quite difficult.
If we stayed in the US, we might want to try to conceive with a live birth guarantee. I know they are quite expensive, but at least it would somewhat cap our costs. Does anyone know which clinics offer these packages?
Are there things you wish you had known before setting down the DE path? If you'd like to share, I'd love to listen.
