Struggling with selecting a new donor, found a nearly perfect match in terms of what we want but donor's mother died of cancer at 38 - Melanoma that ended up spreading to her Lymph nodes. Any early onset of Cancer typically steers me away from a donor. Melanoma can be sun exposure driven but researching that there is a gene that could be hereditary. In addition, Donor went into anaphylactic shock at 4 due to peanut allergies and was treated for other allergies as a child. Worried there might be too many hereditary things to potentially pass on. For me and DH, we have high risk of colon cancer so we watch for that and I don't select any donor with Maternal family breast cancer history.
Her 1st family history does not include any other family members with melanoma.
Due to my recent surgery, we have some time still to select a frozen donor but she meets all of our "wants" in a person. We have a trickier time given our red hair trait too (lesser # of red haired donors out there).
The DEB egg lot is 7 (we prefer 8, but those aren't common and would not prefer a lot of 6 or 5 which are common). If any of you have DEB experience, appreciate thoughts here too.
Thanks for your thoughts!
