Hi, everyone!
My husband and I have been searching for our Egg Donor for some time. We recently were given a profile to review that we really like. However, this particular donor is a carrier for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. This is a disease in which certain nerves in the brain and spinal cord die, impairing a person's ability to move. Many babies with this condition die within the first few months of birth.
Although my husband had genetic testing done a few years ago through Recombine and was not a carrier for anything, he is going to to be tested with the Counsyl panel that they used on the donor just to be sure. I was a carrier for a different genetic condition so I'm wondering how reasonable it is to hope for a donor that isn't a carrier for anything.
I wondering all of your thoughts and opinions on choosing this donor. As we all know, using donor eggs is very costly and I want to be sure I'm giving myself the best opportunity at having a HEALTHY child! I appreciate your feedback!
