Non-PIO moms - question

I participated in a study for two FETs - one I was randomly selected to take both PIO and endometrin (bfn). The next cycle I was randomly selected to take just endometrin (also BFN). Today at my lining check the doctor (not my doctor) said it was good I was planning to take PIO for this cycle because they did a study and it was proven to work better. I told him I was actually part of that study and for one cycle I did endometrin only. I asked if that could have impacted things and he said yes. I was floored. I was told when signing up for the study that they would never do something to jeopardize a cycle. I called my nurse and she said it probably wasn't the lack of PIO as for why that one cycle didn't work. She said many people take endometrin only (in the UK? Is this true?) and go on to get pregnant. Just wanted to see what others' experiences have been without PIO. I know for my very first OE fresh cycle I took crinone, and was successful. I'm not sure what the difference is between crinone and endometrin and PIO.
