Just wanted to start this post now that I officially have my test results in and have done a lot of research and talked with my GP. My details are in my signature, but long story short, I had several failed IUIs and IVFs after over a year TTC in my early thirties, and ended up doing a successful DE cycle and gave birth to twins at 34 years old.
I'm not sure if we'll try to conceive again, but after feeling exhausted and just some other symptoms lately, I researched possible causes and a potential link to homozygous C MTHFR (which I found during fertility workups before my DE cycle). I had had my TSH tested recently so thought it was not a thyroid issue, and I found some info on Vitamin B deficiency related to the MTHFR gene.
When I went to my GP, based on my symptoms she also suggested a vitamin D blood test, in addition to the B12, homocysteine and MMA tests. Turns out my Vitamin D is slightly low (34), which is technically within the wide normal range of 30-100, but apparently my GP said optimal levels are 70-80, and my research showed that you need a level above 50 or 60 when TTC.
So I just started my Vitamin D3 supplements today, and we'll see if it has any link to fertility (I was always unexplained), or if it helps my general health. But for any of you ladies that have had DE, it may be worth it to get your Vitamin D levels checked (apparently there are significant health risks with low Vitamin D), and your Vitamin B12 and folate checked if you have MTHFR.
I will update this post with any useful information but did come across a lot of articles linking Vitamin D to fertility problems, and apparently even if you are using DE, Vitamin D could have some impact on inplantation.
