Hi everyone,
I've been reviewing donor profiles from my center and have come across one that I really like with a couple of exceptions. Her medical history is clean which an exception of an allergy to pencillin. After talking to a doctor about this I'm not worried. However, she has a maternal cousin with Crohns Disease and another maternal cousin who is in remission from Leukemia (age of onset was 45). Her brothers are also very overweight, one is diagnosed obese, but she is thin (like me). I've been researching to what extent these things are all genetic and I'm not sure how much it matters since it's her cousins with these diseases. I'd definitely be more alarmed if it was her parents or siblings. As for the obsesity I'm not sure what to make of that. I've read that while there may be a genetic component there is also a strong lifestyle component as well. I know no ones family medical history is going to be completely "clean." Should I be stressing about maternal cousins and sibling weight!?!!
Thanks for your input!
